HOUGHTON -- A Lake Linden man accused of sexually abusing a five-year-old girl over three years was sentenced Wednesday.

Twenty-five-year-old Robert Moilanen has been ordered to serve one year in the Houghton County Jail with credit for 251 days already served.

In a plea agreement, Moilanen plead guilty to second degree attempted criminal sexual conduct.

"It took me many years to even accept that I am a product of alcohol and drugs.  I was in denial for many years, and it's the same way with this where I'm kind of in denial of it still, and I still really don't want to accept it, but over time I will accept that I am guilty of this crime, and I have done it," said Moilanen to the court.

Prior to sentencing, the court heard a statement from the victim's family expressing their anger towards Moilanen.  Moilanen has apologized to the victim.

After he serves his jail sentence, Moilanen will be on probation for five years and will be required to register as a sex offender.
