NEGAUNEE -- It was an exciting afternoon for kids in Negaunee Wednesay as the Annual Elks Kids Day kicked off.

The Elks Club has been hosting the fun-filled day for over 20 years as a part of Negaunee's Pioneer Days, and it's turned into a summer staple.

"I have been saving up all my money and tickets for all the stuff here, and I have liked it a lot. We come here every year, and it's very exciting for us," said participant, Kaelyn Amis.

The day started in downtown Negaunee with a bike parade, then the bicyclists made their way to the arena, where it was full of activities.

Families purchased raffle tickets, and kids could do everything from play carnival games, face painting, to horseback ride.

In years past, the day has raised about $3,000 with all money going directly to kids in the form of a drug prevention program and scholarships.

"It's what we do as Elks. A lot of our focus is on the youth and veterans, and at this point in time, this is just something that's come about over the years. We're just very happy to do it for the kids," said Elks Club member, Mike Ilmonen.

This Saturday, the annual fireworks show at Teal Lake will take place at dusk.
