WEST BRANCH TOWNSHIP -- West Branch Township was abuzz with activity this afternoon with the annual summer pie social.

The pie social is a fundraiser put on by the South County fund committee at the West Branch Township town hall.

This year they are raising money to improve the sledding hill at Sawyer.

They had 16 varieties of homemade pie for sale.

Whole pies sold for ten dollars, or visitors could buy slices of pie and even add ice cream.

The committee made 54 pies and 11 tarts for the social, and they sold every one.

"We've always had good responses," said Michelle Cristal, chairwoman of SCFC. "People in the community, they respond well to this and help us out. we've had a lot of them help us out, and we're famous for our pies. We are known as the pie ladies."

This year, the South County fund committee raised 614 dollars.

The pie social is only one of many events they hold to benefit the community.
