HARVEY -- A $6 million Michigan Department of Transportation project that stands between Harvey and the City of Marquette is going strong, and according to officials was needed due to road deterioration.

Construction officials say please be mindful and give construction vehicles space to enter and exit their project area from Bayou Street to M-28.  Crews are adding shoulders to the road, but three lanes are currently closed.

"We renovated concrete on both sections as a transition," said Foreman Chris Rigoni.  "And then we had a sand overlay in the middle and there's a foot and a half of sand.  Then we put down six inches of gravel, and six more inches of black top."

The project started in April and is expected to be completed in October.
