BARAGA -- Kids of all ages and their families came out to fish at the Ojibwa Recreation Area in Baraga Saturday morning.
This was the tenth annual Keweenaw Bay Indian Community's 'Kids Fishing Derby' at Sand Point Pond. This year's derby was in honor of the Gauthier family as a way to respect the fishing culture of the area.
"In the past we typically honor families that are tightly linked to the fishing community here and the commercial fishery, so the Gauthier family has a history and a past of being part of the commercial fishery," said Erin Johnston of the Natural Resources Department.
Several businesses in the area donated money to make the event possible.
