HOUGHTON -- The City of Houghton, the Downtown Houghton Business Association and Portage Health all teamed up to offer summer salsa...for free.

People got a chance to stop by the table and taste Pico de Gallo, Tomatillo and mango pineapple salsa.  This is also a part of Portage Health's Healthy Eating Initiative.

"Childhood obesity in this country, as well as adult obesity in this country, has gotten out of control," said Mark Pittillo, Director of Food Services at Portage Health.  "So it's our mission this year to combat childhood obesity.  Chips and salsa doesn't seem healthy, but it's quite healthy compared to chips and sour cream dip."

The salsa even came with a recipe card so people could make their very own salsa at home.
