A passing cold front brought some light rain across the U.P. overnight and into the morning hours. It's working it's way southeast and should be out of our hair by early Sunday afternoon. Behind the front, skies will become clearer and clearer with each passing hour, but temperatures will be less warm. Sunday's highs will be mainly in the 60s, but it could exceed 70 along the Wisconsin line.
Conditions will be windy with a northwest wind around 10-20 mph. Lake Superior will have strong waves and dangerous currents because of that. Check out the rip current risk from the National Weather Service.
As a high pressure center approaches Sunday night into Monday, winds wil be near calm. Skies will be clear. That will greatly enhance radiational cooling, and lows will fall down into the 40s. A few isolated locations in the western interior may even briefly get into the 30s.
Monday's weather should be perfect for spending time outdoors. Skies will be mostly sunny, winds will be light out of the north, and temperatures will be near seasonal. Highs should be in the upper 60s to low 70s.
By Monday night, the high pressure center should be directly above the Upper Great Lakes region. Winds will be practically nonexistent, skies will be clear and perfect for stargazing, and again temperatures will be a bit chilly, but less so than Sunday night. Lows will be in the upper 40s to low 50s.
As the high exits on Tuesday, a southerly flow will take over and temperatures will steadily increase throughout the week until the next system arrives on Thursday or Friday.
June 24 kicks off Lightning Safety Awareness Week. Remember, "When thunder roars, go indoors!" If you're close enough to be hear thunder, you're close enough to be struck by lightning. The safest place is in your car or a secure building, and the least safe place is on water or the roof of a building. I can go on and on about lightning safety, but here is a helpful link from the National Weather Service, which even includes information for teachers with young children.

Tom often has a lightning expert speak to the crowd. Her name escapes me, but she handed everyone a "When thunder roars, go indoors" thing to wear on our heads. I still have mine! Maybe I'll wear it on the air.
