CHAMPION -- People come from all over the U.P. to see it and to race in it.

It was the 56th annual Mud Drags in Champion. Racers compete for the fastest time. They take two runs on the track, one in each lane. Thousands came to Champion over the course of the weekend. There was also fun for the family with pony rides and plenty of food.

The Champion Volunteer Fire Department organizes the event every year as a fundraiser.

"We don't get paid anything. It's absolutely a non-paid department, so whatever we do in that, the money from here is used for, doesn't have to come out of taxpayers' money, the majority of it," said Roy Pascoe, a volunteer firefighter.

Admission for adults was six dollars. Money raised is used to train and buy equipment for the Champion Fire Department.
