MARQUETTE -- If you were passing through north Marquette Thursday morning, you might have been surprised with a gift.

Employees of Swick Home Services handed out flowers to motorists and pedestrians going by their showroom at the corner of Wright and Presque Isle.  It's part of the company's recent initiative to pick one day each month to do a random act of kindness in the community.

Employees say the business has always been reaching out to people in the area, and events like this are well received.

"We hope that people then will pay it forward and other companies will take an opportunity to get involved in our community and give back.  There's plenty of need in our community, and these little random acts of kindness, they can't help but make people's day a little bit brighter," said Nancy Bailey of Swick Home Services.

Swick employees have also spent time raking lawns and bagging groceries as part of the kindness initiative.
