MARQUETTE -- Their proposal calls for the former Sara Lee bakery property to be repurposed as a residential, commercial and parking area. The Veridia Group purchased the land in 2011.

Monday night, they gave a presentation to the Marquette City Commission with the hopes of scheduling a public hearing.

"As a city resident, I'm excited about the idea that we would have a wonderful, beautiful project there that's going to employ people from the construction of it through the people that are coming in to live and work there. I think it's a real win-win," said Sheri Davie, the Executive Director of the Marquette Brownfield Redevelopment Authority.

If the project is approved and moves forward, the Veridia Group says a number of spaces have already been pre-leased. The City Commission approved a motion to hold a public hearing at the next meeting which is scheduled for June 25.
