MARQUETTE -- The Department of Natural Resources is now touting a thousand reasons as to why you should get a Recreation Passport.
In October 2010 the DNR introduced the recreational passport as a way to raise funds for national parks and boat launch areas.
Along with the passport came a number of discounts or perks from local businesses, offering everything from free pizza deliveries to oil changes.
The DNR says the Passport Perks program helps boost the local economy.
"It's just a really good way to stimulate the economy in a local area," said Debbie Munson Badini, a spokeswoman for the DNR. "We have Van Riper State Park right here. A lot of businesses in town, they're going to be attracting not only the locals who get these discounts but also the people who come who visit our state parks."
