There are nearly 20 state parks in the Upper Peninsula
UPPER PENINSULA -- Michigan's state parks are offering more activities than ever before.
There are nearly 20 state parks in the Upper Peninsula. The parks offer a chance for families to explore the great outdoors and create their own summer memories. Van Riper State Park in Champion offers outdoor hiking trails, campgrounds, kayaking, fishing and other activities.
"Our biggest focus right now is our Rec. 101 series which offers a ton of different programs to get people into the outdoors and really just trying out new things," said DNR Park Officer Matena Coron. "We live in an amazing state, so I think the biggest thing is just getting people to come out and try a few different things. There's something for everyone; eventually you'll find something you like."
The camp also offers rustic cabins to rent, located on the shores of Lake Michigamme. The Department of Natural Resources is encouraging all residents to get out and enjoy the natural beauty of Upper Michigan.
