NEGAUNEE -- It's a milestone anniversary for the Michigan Iron Industry Museum in Negaunee: 25 years.

Volunteers served cake and ice cream, and they wore clothes from the 1800s, when the iron industry was just beginning in Michigan. The Dodworth Saxhorn Band from Ann Arbor performed 19th century music for the crowd. The main event was the ribbon cutting ceremony for the two new trails around the museum.

After four years of planning and constructing, they're finally open to the public.

"To complete a project like this is very exciting for us," said Sandra Clark, director of the Michigan Historical Center.

"We've been doing a lot with the Iron Industry Museum over the last five to 10 years, and this is just one more of those very big projects."

This summer, the two new trails will be connected to the Iron Ore Heritage Trail.
