The Superior Watershed Partnership and Marquette City are making plans to change the boulevard scenery

MARQUETTE -- Thanks to a $58,000 grant from the state, the Superior Watershed Partnership is teaming up with Marquette City to restore over a half mile of the Lake Superior shoreline.

"What we found throughout the years is that a number of residents feel that the rocks are unsightly because the grade of Lakeshore Blvd. You drive down a portion of town where you should have a spectacular view of the lake, and you end up looking at rocks," said city planner Dennis Stachewicz.

But what do they do with the land?

So far, the Superior Watershed Partnership and city are considering moving the rocks and installing trails, viewing platforms, and more room for public access.

"There's a number of environmental benefits and public access benefits, a more public shoreline. There's just a lot of great benefits to the project, including economic benefits," said Superior Watershed representative Carl Lindquist.

They'll be hosting several public meetings, asking for input on the the plans for the shoreline.

"We definitely want to hear from the community and get their viewpoint on these things. So we didn't have anything set in stone going into this," Stachewicz added.

The project is still in the preliminary phases, and a construction start date has yet to be scheduled.

The first public meeting is being held at 6:30 p.m. this coming Monday at the Lakeview Arena.
