MARQUETTE -- The laidback sound of country and the steady beat of rock n' roll are just a few examples of what you'll hear from the U.P.-based band Cedar Savage.
The band performed at Flanigan's in Marquette last Friday, one of several local bands to take advantage of the bar's happy hour.
"Local musicians come out; there are a lot of talented people around here, definitely, and that gives them a place to play, gives them exposure," said Sean Moran, a member of Cedar Savage. "You hear a lot of good music around here."
Those in the closely-knit Marquette music community say venues like Flanigan's provide a unique opportunity for local talents.
"Being able to have venues like this outside is awesome. It's awesome to go out here and [enjoy] the sun and enjoy the weather," said Cindy Engle, founder of MarquetteMusicScene.com
Helping drive people out to enjoy these performances is a website and Facebook page called Marquette Music Scene, an on-line group devoted to promoting live music in the area.
"That was my reason for starting it was the bands need help, and the venues who hired the bands need the help because you can't support the bands if you only sell four beers," Engle said.
Happy hour at Flanigan's begins Friday at 5 p.m. with the live music starting at 6 p.m.
