ISHPEMING -- Ishpeming High School students are doing their part to help their community ahead of summer break, as over 40 industrial arts students took on the task of clearing parts of the Heritage Trail in Ishpeming on Tuesday morning.

The work included clearing brush, cutting trees and removing remnants of an old roundhouse along the trail.  Nathan McFarren, the students' teacher, says Tuesday's cleanup was the perfect opportunity to put his students' skills to work for a good cause.

"We're mostly a woods class here and a lot of the guys have experience with the tools and they do this stuff all the time, they appreciate it," said McFarren.  "We're at the end of the year so we're looking for some good things to do and I thought this would be a positive thing for the community and the kids."

McFarren says next year he wants his class to work on installing signage along the Heritage Trail.
