Farmers at the Rock River Farm guided visitors around the entire farm

CHATHAM -- Touring one of the local farms is an annual treat for Chatham residents.

Farmers at the Rock River Farm guided visitors around the entire farm. The tour takes about 20 minutes. Visitors were able to see their newest acre of crops that contains broccoli, potatoes, squash, and tomatoes, and also their livestock of chickens. The farm also grows flowers for the local farmer's market. The tour is organized by the Marquette Food Co-op.

This is the third year they have been giving these tours at the farm. The purpose is to get people in touch with where their food comes from.

"It's wonderful to see your customers at the farmer's market as well as seeing them on the farm touring," said Shailah Pelto, a farmer.

"It's a great opportunity for people to see where their food comes from which is a rare chance in this day and age."

The next farm tour with the Co-op will be in L'Anse on June 10.
