MARQUETTE -- A Menominee County man has been ordered to serve 40 months in federal prison for being a habitual domestic violence offender.  Viktor Protasoff, 38, of Wilson pled guilty to the charge in December.

He assaulted his girlfriend, who is a tribal member, at a home in the Hannahville Indian Community which is why the case was handled in federal court.  Prosecutors say Protasoff pulled her hair and struck her in the head and chest.

Protasoff was previously convicted of domestic violence on three separate occasions in Alger and Delta County courts.
