L'ANSE -- The Waterfront Park downtown L’Anse is getting brand new playground equipment thanks to some very hardworking L’Anse middle-schoolers.
Since the beginning of this year 15 publication students have been writing proposals and attending local government meetings for the park project.
They just received $30,000 from the L’Anse DDA and another $5,000 from KBIC which will be used to start the project.
“They’ve gained experience by presenting in front of adults and really working on a project that’s meaningful not just to a grade but to the whole community, said L’Anse teacher Amanda Rinkinen.
“I’m excitted for it to come together because we’ve been working on this for the whole semester and it’s going to start to come together,” added student Lauren Elmblad.
Construction is set to begin in July and even though class is over, all of the students will help build the playground.
The students still need donations for the surfacing of the playground. If you are interested in helping them, send your donation to the L’Anse DDA (Park Fund) 101 N. Main St. L’Anse, MI 49946.
