MUNISING -- A Munising man is in jail on Thursday night because his pit bull mauled an eight-year-old girl.

John Wesley Janes, 48, is charged with having dangerous animals causing serious injuries and being a habitual offender, fourth degree.

Janes is in jail on a $10,000 cash bond.  As of last report, the little girl remains hospitalized.  Paramedics at the scene that day treated the girl for multiple punctures and lacerations from dog bites.

The Alger County Sheriff's Department says the attack happened late last Friday afternoon on Carmody Road.  Officials say the dog was loose and unattended at the time of the attack.
