TV6 is seeking photos or video of the fire

LUCE COUNTY -- The fire has more than doubled in size since late afternoon.  It's now estimated to have burned 17,935 acres.

It's a fast moving fire through jackpine.  The Department of Natural Resources says they have 10 percent containment on the western side.  DNR Public Information Officer Dean Wilson says, "We're expecting one heckuva fire in the morning, given the windy conditions."

No one has been injured, but Wilson says they've been lucky that no firefighters have been trapped.  He said some firefighters have had to run from the fire.  Wilson says some structures have been threatened, but no word of any of them being destroyed.

Mandatory evacuations are still in effect for the areas north and northeast of Pike Lake.  There are also plans to evacuate lower and upper Tahquamenon Falls.  The Red Cross has set up a shelter at the Newberry Youth Center.

TV6 plans to have a reporter on the scene Friday.  If you have photos or video of the fire, please send them to us at wlucnews@wluctv6.com.

A mandatory evacuation order has been given for residents north and north east of Pike Lake in northern Luce County, according to emergency management officials.

A 640-acre fire has started spreading after winds shifted on Thursday.  The fire, known as the Duck Lake Fire, began on Wednesday and is currently five miles long and one mile wide.

The American Red Cross has set up a shelter for evacuees at the Newberry Youth Center.

Department of Natural Resources units are on scene and more units are en route.
