SENEY -- Due to the Seney Wildlife Refuge fire M-28 could possibly be closed my officials between Seney and Shingleton, but the road is currently open at this time.

Beginning Thursday, The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close M-28 between Shingleton and Seney to allow the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to conduct back-burning operations from the highway.  Officials have not yet closed the road, but plan to make an announcement when they do.

This activity is expected to take several hours, but the exact duration of the closure is not yet known.

The official detour during the closure will be on M-94, US-2, and M-77. Several portable changeable message signs have been placed around the area to alert motorists of the wildfire and the closure.

MDOT will announce when the highway has been reopened.
