NEGAUNEE -- On Wednesday morning, middle school students from Negaunee did their part to give back to their community.

About two dozen students from Mark Churchill's health class worked to clean up the Pocket Park in downtown Negaunee.  The event was sponsored by the Negaunee Beautification Committee, and the young volunteers planted flowers raised by fifth graders at the school and pulled some weeds from the ground.

Organizers hope Wednesday's event will plant the seed in the students' lives to come back and volunteer in the future.

Next week, students from Lakeview Elementary are scheduled to clean up Miner's Park.
