The South Shore Fishing Association organized the event
MARQUETTE -- A group of nearly 40 volunteers worked to cleanup Whetstone Brook in Marquette on Sunday morning.
The South Shore Fishing Association organized the event. The main purpose of the clean up was to educate children and to get them involved. Many of the volunteers were from Big Brothers Big Sisters. Supplies and disposal services were provided by Tri-Media and North County Disposal.
The clean up covered Altamont Street to the McDonald's on Washington.
"I think it's going to be a great thing. We're looking for ways to give back to our members and to the community, and I think it's going to be great for kids," said Mylan Koski, Vice President of the South Shore Fishing Association.
This was the first cleanup that the South Shore Fishing Association has done, and they hope to do more in the future.
