Saturday had nearly record-breaking warmth, but not quite. Sunday should be nearly as warm for most of the U.P. with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, but temperatures are tricky for this forecast. The strong south wind is maintaining warmth for much of the central and eastern U.P., but an incoming cold front from the west will make it less warm. Behind the front, highs will likely only get into the 60s, which is still only seasonal for temperatures.

The front is moving a bit slowly, but it should bring plenty of clouds and rain as it passes over the course of Sunday. Rain may be a bit heavy at times, and strong winds and some small hail are even possible in the central counties. Thunderstorms are also looking a bit more likely than they did Saturday. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk for severe weather which includes parts of the U.P. If you hear thunder in your area or see any hail, please let me know!

Rain should continue most of Sunday night, but steadily clearing behind the front out west late. As rain clears away, there may be some fog in its wake. Temperatures will fall into the 40s. Winds will shift out of the northwest.

Regretfully, this means that we will not likely be able to see the annular solar eclipse, though it may be worth a glance in the far western U.P. after 8 p.m. if things clear up. Check out this video from NASA. It has great info on eclipses and how to view them. Spaceweather.com is likely one of the best spots to see pictures after the eclipse.

Monday's forecast will be considerably less warm, but still seasonal for this time of year. Highs will mainly be in the 60s, but as a north wind takes over, it will be cooler near Lake Superior. There will likely be some rain and clouds lingering east as the front exits the U.P., but high pressure will be taking over and clearing things away to reveal mostly sunny skies most of Monday.

Monday night, things will cool down a bit further into the low 40s. Skies will be mostly clear and winds will be light.

As we feel the effects of another south wind behind high pressure, Tuesday will see the start of another warming trend that will last for a couple more days.

For more info, you can always find me on Facebook. My cover photo for this week ties in with our thunderstorm chances for Sunday. It was underneath a developing mesocyclone somewhere in Nebraska if I recall correctly. It was a great way to start our storm chase last summer!
