KINGSFORD -- A Kingsford home has been severely damaged by fire.  The fire broke out Wednesday evening and took officials about 40 minutes to control; by then the damage was already done.

At 6:10 p.m., Kingsford Public Safety responded to a 911 report of a structure fire.  Upon arrival, the back deck and roof were completely engulfed, and all available officers were called to the scene.

"It (the fire) advanced extensively in the house, and we spent a good amount of time fighting the fire and then addressing hot spots that were found after the major part of the fire was put out," said Sergeant Michael Stelmaszek from Kingsford Public Safety.

Kingsford Public Safety was on scene until 9:30 p.m.  The fire began in the basement, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Neighbors say the residents moved in only two weeks ago and are now staying with family members.
