HANCOCK -- People of all ages came out to support the fourth annual Copper Country Great Start Collaborative Bridge Walk.

The walk started at the Ramada in Hancock. The goal of the event is to show legislatures in Lansing how much the community supports early childhood services. Those services include early childhood education and the physical and social health of children ages zero to five.

"The next step is the budget," said Shelly Smith, Director of the Copper Country Great Start program.

"It's in process right now down in Lansing, and I think they have a June 1 due date or at least by mid-June to get the budget decided, and so that certainly plays into the timing of this event. But we just want to make sure that they know how important it is to us so that when they're voting on the budget, they can make decisions based on what people from the Copper country are interested in."

Once participants walked across the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, the walk ended at Chutes and Ladders Park. For more information about this event, click here.
