One Escanaba store sells propane, natural gas, and charcoal grills
ESCANABA --
Whether it's charcoal, propane, or natural gas, finding the right grill can take a bit of thought, and sometimes, impulse.
“You know, the need and desire always seems to come out on its own,” says shopper Gilbert Cheves. “So you're always looking out for that next better gadget. And if you like grilling, then you're always turning down the aisle that has the grills."
Cheves says he already has two grills, but a third one wouldn't hurt. He purchased his grills at T & T True Value Hardware in Escanaba. According to the store owner, the hardware store's grill season kicks off in April when people start getting their money back from income tax season. There are about a dozen grills to choose from.
May, June, and July are the biggest months to buy grills at T & T. Prices range from $79 for a charcoal grill to $749 for a propane gas grill. If you want a natural gas grill, that can be specially ordered.
Kelly O’Connell, the owner and manager, swears by the Weber Grills. They come with a 10-year warranty and are solid stainless steel.
He says grilling often pleases husbands and wives.
“Oh, there's nothing better than having the guy go out and cook the meal as the wife looks back and laughs,” says O’Connell. “Because, let's face it, when it's inside the kitchen, a lot of the women do the cooking, but a lot of the guys just love to be outside cooking on a grill."
As for Cheves, he says he'll still keep his eye out for a third grill. He enjoys grilling out so much that he grills out almost every other night, even during wintertime.
