ESCANABA -- Curves in Escanaba held a blood drive Tuesday, and while participation was lighter than usual, organizers say the event was still a success.  Around 20 people normally sign up, but only 16 people signed up for this drive, with a few walk-ins.

Curves has been organizing the blood drive for four years now.  The Bloodmobile travels from the U.P. Regional Blood Center in Marquette.

"What we like about the U.P. Blood Center is they send the money to the 13 hospitals in the U.P., so our blood stays local.  It's not that that really matters where it goes once you give it, but it is nice to know that it stays local," said Jan Mortl of Curves.

The Bloodmobile visits Curves every nine weeks.
