NORWAY -- Two families dug their first step into what will be their new homes in Norway.
The families had a double groundbreaking to mark the beginning of their building towards a better future, thanks to Habitat for Humanity.
"I can't wait to start a new chapter in our lives with a home we can call our own," said Kody Hendricks. "Thank you everyone so much."
The two families, the Haferkorns and the Opolks, were notified eight months ago that they were selected for a Habitat house.
Habitat for Humanity is a Christian housing ministry with a mission to eliminate substandard housing.
"I think Habitat actually is great for families and children, it's just...it's an honor to, you know, get a Habitat house," said Carrie Haferkorn.
The homes are built by volunteer labor but come at a reasonable cost. Families have to put in 200 hours of sweat equity as down payment by volunteering time to Habitat.
Families also pay an affordable non-profit mortgage. Those funds are then recycled towards future Habitat homes.
