MARQUETTE -- It was a southern charm for the 6th Annual Purse Auction at the Marquette Regional History Center.  It was a Kentucky Derby-themed event where everyone wore extravagant hats and outfits.

The silent auction had a variety of purses and accessories.  Community members donated all of the items.  The funds all support history center events and operations.

Prizes were awarded to the most outrageous, historical, and derby-like hats.

"It's great fun.  It's something light, something quick, something great for the spring. People like to dress up and just have a good time," said History Center Fundraising Manager, Cris Osier.

This is the first year the auction was held at the history center.
