MARQUETTE -- A longtime Marquette County Juvenile Court Referee has announced he is running for Marquette County Probate Court Judge.

George Hyde made the announcement on Friday.  He is running for the position which is being vacated by Judge Michael Anderegg, who is retiring at the end of the year.

Hyde has served as the Juvenile Court Referee since 2001.  In 11 years, Hyde has presided over nearly 5,000 hearings.  The Probate Judge is allowed to challenge decisions made in these hearings, but none of Hyde's decisions have ever been challenged.

Hyde, 43, was born and raised in the Upper Peninsula.  He went to L'Anse High School and Northern Michigan University.  He is also a veteran Combat Engineer of the Michigan Army National Guard and was Honorably Discharged in 1992.

"For over 11 years as the Juvenile Court Referee, I have been making important and difficult decisions from the Probate Court bench," said Hyde.  "I would be honored to continue to do so as Marquette County's next Probate Judge."

Hyde currently lives in Marquette.
