MARQUETTE -- There are a lot of talented U.P. residents. However, I didn't know world records were here.

You might not have seen so many skate boarders at the same place at the same time, but it happened April 2011. Over 300 skate boarders came out to break the previous record of 250 skaters for the largest long board parade.

Along with that record came the world's largest trophy awarded to the Marquette Informal Long board Foundation. The trophy is 22 feet tall beating the previous record of 16 feet.

Terry Dehrling, with Quick Trophy, says it was nothing they'd ever done before.

"When we put this one together, it was so big we couldn't even stand up inside the building. We had to build it inside, then take it outside to stand up in the parking lot. When we did it, it was just amazing because it was taller than the building," said Dehrling.

Chelsea Creveling says world records in the U.P. has a lot to do with snow. "I wouldn't be surprised that it had something to do with most snow or coldest winter or something like that," said Creveling.

Facebooker Ry Lucas writes:  "The three world records that Michigan Tech and the community broke one winter."

In 2006 over 3,500 people came together to break the record for the most snow angels at the same time, the biggest snowball fight, and the biggest snowball at six feet and eight inches.

Another record was made by the Computer Aided Design team from Bay College who set the record for the largest working yoyo in 2010. The yoyo had to drop from 90 feet without any issues.

So what is the process for entering the Guinness Book of World Records?

"We had to provide pictures, affidavits, measurements by the architect or engineer. It was a lot of documentation they required," Dehrling said.

There you have it. It may be time for another world record here in the U.P....is it you?

If you're planning on being the next person to break a record, remember documentation, documentation, documentation.
