Marquette County and Dickinson County are below the nine-percent mark, while Menominee County stands out at 7.7 percent
MARQUETTE -- Data is in for last month's unemployment rate in Michigan, and the numbers are improving.
Michigan's unemployment rate fell to 8.5 percent, bringing the state closer to the national rate of 8.2 percent. Several counties improved their unemployment numbers. Marquette County and Dickinson County are below the nine-percent mark, while Menominee County stands out at 7.7 percent.
"That's where most of the manufacturing exists in the U.P., and manufacturing has had a great resurgence--a lot of the auto industry near Menominee, Marinette Marine is building the battleships--so you see lots of employment activity that's positive," said Dennis West, president of Northern Initiatives.
The county with the highest unemployment rate is Mackinac at 21 percent.
