HOUGHTON -- More than 15 Houghton High School Drama Club students are practicing for their final play of the school year.
The predominantly female cast of “Incognito” takes place on a cruise ship during the 1940s, right before America enters World War II.
“There’s a German spy aboard who’s about to radio the information about what name the British spy, Charles Locke, is currently using so that they can identify him, and just as he’s about to do that, he gets shot,” said director Charles Crowley.
This murder mystery is broken up into three acts, and every character is not exactly what they seem. As the play continues, the characters' secrets are exposed. Two members of the cast will have to speak German, and Dana Neufeld says it was tough at first.
“It’s a lot more difficult to memorize the lines in German because I don’t know what they’re saying,” said Neufeld.
The students say this play will keep the audience guessing until the very end, and they want them to get involved.
“It’s really unexpected, and I know I didn’t guess, that’s for sure, and everyone I’ve talked to who knows didn’t guess the right person,” said Audrey Kuuttila.
The audience will get the chance to play a game called “Guess the Killer,” and whoever gets it right will have the opportunity to win a prize.
The director says those who come to see the show won’t leave disappointed.
“They’re going to feel amazed when they come and see the kind of job that these kids do. People normally think high school plays are high school kids, but we’ve done shows and you can’t tell the difference between them and adults,” Crowley said.
The play runs Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students and seniors.
