Earth Day 2012 will be a very sunny one for the U.P. We may see a few clouds lingering in the far west with that weak low pressure area, but that is slowly diminishing now. High pressure is the dominant weather factor over the Midwest.
Highs Sunday will be mostly seasonal in the upper 40s and low 50s, but a very light breeze with lots of sunshine will make it feel a bit warmer. That light north wind will still be enough to make it a bit cooler near Lake Superior. Temps will be warmest along the Wisconsin border.
Sunday night's lows will be around 30, but colder near Wisconsin. Clear skies (and mostly clear skies in the far western counties) will enhance radiational cooling, so some locations could fall into the mid 20s. Winds will still remain near calm.
Monday will be similar to Sunday, but a bit warmer with most highs in the lows 50s. As a low pressure system builds to our far east, we'll experience an increased north wind, making it colder near Lake Superior. Skies will still see abundant sunshine.
Monday night will see lows only falling into the mid 30s. Most areas should remain above freezing. Skies will finally start to see a few clouds as the high pressure center moves further to our south.
Tuesday still looks to be the warmest day this week. Temps will cool down a bit after that with some rain possible Tuesday night into Wednesday, but warming up to more seasonal temps again by next weekend.
For more weather info, join me on Facebook. I will also be filling in for Karl in the evenings through Wednesday. So go out and plant a tree. It's Earth Day! I normally recommend planting a flower, too, but things may still get below freezing in the near future.
