MARQUETTE -- The first-ever Northern Michigan University Zumbathon was a huge hit Thursday night.  During the first hour alone, over 150 people were dancing the pounds away.  The cost of admission was one non-perishable food item, and the group had collected more than three boxes full. The students that organized the event say the benefit is more than just physical.

"Just to be around people and the social interaction; you can just see how many types of people are here, and we're all here doing the same thing together, and to come together as a community is just huge and we're really happy with it," said student organizer Kaylie Flaminio.

Organizers will be donating the canned goods to the St. Vincent DePaul in Marquette.  With the success of the event, organizers hope to see this return in the future.
