MARQUETTE -- A Marquette County woman is recovering, but her allegations of how she was injured have turned out to be false.

The Chocolay Township Police Department was called to an alleged assault that happened along the bike path.  The victim, a 37-year-old woman, claims she was jogging along the path Tuesday evening, when she was stopped by several men.

She told police that the five assailants demanded money, and when she told them she did not have any, the men assaulted her with a knife and beat her.  However, during the investigation, police determined that the incident never happened.

The victim was taken to Marquette General Hospital for treatment, but the police did not report how she received her injuries.
