GRAND RAPIDS (AP) -- Authorities in West Michigan say chicken tacos may be to blame for stomach illnesses that sickened up to 250 inmates at the Kent County jail.

The Grand Rapids Press reports Tuesday (http://bit.ly/IE6dVK ) that samples were provided to the Kent County Health Department to determine what gave inmates stomach troubles starting Sunday.

Undersheriff Jon Hess says inmates raised concerns shortly after lunch was served that day, saying the tacos didn't taste right. Jail workers made sandwiches instead, but illnesses affected about a quarter of the jail's 1,000 inmates. The taco meals included tortilla shells and refried beans.

Jail workers say inmates have since recovered.
