ISHPEMING -- The Michigan Department of Transportation held its public hearing on Wednesday to discuss its five year plan for the Upper Peninsula.
The meeting is designed to take a look at the road construction projects for the next five years and get feedback from citizens. MDOT also discussed the link between gas taxes in Michigan and revenue for MDOT.
"As the cost of gas goes up people get more efficient cars they drive less miles, they make wiser decisions when they do drive, they consolidate trips and the number of miles goes down. So, more fuel efficient cars, less trips means less gas so our revenue goes down," said Andy Sikkema of MDOT.
The major projects for this year in the Marquette area include the resurfacing and reconstruction of US-41 from Marquette to Harvey and a project on the Champion street bridge.
