FLAT ROCK, MI (AP) -- Authorities say a man could face animal cruelty charges after four dead dogs were found on his property southwest of Detroit.

The Detroit News and WDIV-TV report officers were called Sunday to property in the city of Flat Rock, where they found the four dead American bulldogs and two sick dogs. Officers said one of the dogs was so malnourished that it had to be euthanized.  The dogs were discovered among five kennels in the backyard.

Authorities say some of the organs of one dog appeared to have been eaten.

Police said the owner told them he vacated the home in December but returned every few days to feed the animals.

Charges are expected to be sent to the Wayne County prosecutors for review.
