CALUMET -- The Calumet Art Center is participating in the Empty Bowl Project, which allows participants can come in, grab a bowl, and start decorating.
This is a collaborative effort with BHK Great Explorations to fight hunger at the local level.
"Can you imagine if you didn't have oatmeal for breakfast, if you didn't have anything to eat? This is to make people in the community aware that there are people in our own community that may be without food and that's what this brings awareness to," said Calumet Art Center Executive Director Ed Gray.
The art center's goal is to paint at least 400 bowls. They will be sold for $10 each, and all of the proceeds will go to local organizations to fight hunger.
The Calumet Art Center says this is the first year they've been a part of the empty bowl project, but they hope to make it an annual event.
