DELTA COUNTY -- Many of us think our pets are the cutest pets out there, but a contest is being held all month long in Escanaba, and the cutest pet can win their owner business gift cards and bragging rights.
It's actually called The Cutest Pet Contest, and over 35 Delta County pets are vying for that title. Anyone can visit the Delta Plaza Mall in Escanaba and drop money into the slot of the pet they think is the cutest. The pets range from dogs and cats, to a duck and a hedgehog.
The money goes directly to the Delta Animal Shelter to help with the spay and neuter program.
"Of course, you know, we're privatized now," said Assistant Manager of the shelter, Mary Gail Blasier. "We don't belong to the county anymore. We run strictly on donations, so this sort of project is our bread and butter. And we are really loaded with cats right now. We're not even into kitten season yet."
Organizers say they expect to raise several hundred dollars through the contest.
