MARQUETTE -- A Marquette area homeless shelter organization could be next in line for a prestigious award.
The Catholic Diocese of Marquette has nominated the Room at the Inn, a traveling homeless shelter that uses 13 churches to house the homeless, to receive the Lumen Christi Award. The annual award honors groups that help spread the light of Christ in their communities.
To vote for the Room at the Inn to win the award, people must go to the Catholic Extension Facebook page.
"One of the reasons "Room at the Inn" came to mind as a nominee is it's such a beautiful community ministry. It's Christian churches of many different denominations all coming together with the same goal of serving the homeless in our area," said Terri Gadzinski of the Catholic Diocese.
The winner of the award will receive $50,000 and will split it with whoever nominated them.
Voting for the award ends on April 13, and the winner will be announced this spring.
