RICHMOND TOWNSHIP -- A fire broke out in Richmond Township on Thursday morning, burning a barn to the ground.

The fire happened a little after 9 a.m. on 65 County Road MM, just off M-35.  Darrel St. Aubin, who lived in the barn, was not inside at the time of the fire.

When Richmond Township Fire Department arrived at the scene, the structure had already begun collapsing.  Negaunee Township Fire Dept. assisted by retrieving water from nearby Werner Creek.  It took them about 10 minutes to get the blaze under control.  UPPCO showed up about an hour later to cut off power to the residence.

St. Aubin will be eligible for Pigs-N-Heat and Red Cross Assistance, according to authorities.

No official cause of the fire has been released, but the homeowner believes it may have been electrical.
