MARQUETTE -- The dust has settled, and the winner of the 2012 Northern Michigan University Chili Challenge is...the NMU nurses association, who won best overall and most original chili. A total of 19 different chilis offered the judges and the customers a wide variety to test their taste buds. The faculty and students use the event as a way to wrap up the year and remember students and staff from the program who have passed away.

"It's just a really nice way to give back to the community, remember the families and get the families involved. It's just a really nice event," said Becky Beaverson, CSNMU president.

A number of professional chilis were on hand as well, including Pacino's from Escanaba, who tied for the best overall chili in the professional category with NMU's dining services.
