MARQUETTE -- The competition for the annual Northern Michigan University Chili Challenge is heating up. Chefs from the Hospitality Management Program are getting their chili recipes just right for the challenge. The event serves as a way to remember NMU faculty and alumni who have passed away. A total of 19 chilis are being prepared for the customers, and prizes will be handed out for best use of heat, most original chili, as well as people's choice and judges' choice.
"We'll have cornbread, we'll have lemonade. Hereford and Hops donated some root beer, so they're getting a bargain for five dollars or seven dollars, and they get to taste some great chilis," said Chris Kibit, NMU faculty advisor.
The Chili Challenge costs five dollars for NMU students and seven dollars for the general public. It'll be held at the Jacobetti Center from 3 until 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
