A local syrup producer comes to talk and educate those interested
MARQUETTE -- Dozens of people stopped by Presque Isle on Saturday to learn the finer points of how maple syrup is made.
The Moosewood Nature Center holds this event every year. A local syrup producer comes to talk and educate those interested. They discussed things like what trees are best to tap and when. He brought several current and historical tools of the trade and an example of the completed product.
"We had some people that are interested in doing this themselves because that's part of what we do with our programs is not only show you that you can do it, like empower you and make you feel like, 'Oh I can do that," said Andrew Bek, executive director at the center.
The maple syrup-making program has been an annual event since Moosewood was founded.
