We're still in the process of cooling down from our heat wave, but Sunday is the day that plunges down in temperatures more than the others. Saturday still managed to tie the high temperature record of 61 degrees (also seen in 1987), but with the cold front that passed, we're a good deal colder.
Temperature forecasts are a bit tricky for Sunday, but for highs, most locations will be in the 40s. A north wind off of Lake Superior will keep it coldest north. It will be warmer south toward Wisconsin where a high of 50 or warmer is still likely.
Skies will be mostly cloudy but steadily clearing up through the afternoon and evening as high pressure takes over. Winds will be a bit breezy and gusty which will add some wind chill.
Sunday night will be cold. Lows will fall into the 20s all around. This will be the first time that there has been an official low temperature below freezing recorded since March 16. Keep in mind that 20s for lows is still a few degrees above average for this time of year.
Winds will shift out of the northeast and will lighten up a bit. Skies will clear up as well, but there will still be a few clouds.
Monday will see highs in the 30s and 40s, warmest in the western interior, but all of Upper Michigan should make it above freezing. Winds will continue to die down and shift to an easterly flow. Skies will grant us with lots of sunshine until some clouds start to roll in from the west in the late afternoon and evening.
Monday night will see lows falling to around 30 degrees with most areas falling below freezing again. It will become more and more cloudy as a low pressure system moves in from the west. It will bring rain late Monday night, but with such cold temperatures, it will likely fall as ice or freeze upon hitting the ground.
Rain will continue through most of Tuesday and parts of Wednesday. Otherwise the main issue throughout the rest of the week looks to be the continued cooler temperatures. It feels cold outside because we've been spoiled with an earlier spring and record warmth, but it's actually STILL above average for the middle of March! Sunday's average high and low are 38 and 18 respectively.
