NEGAUNEE TWP. -- U.S. Senator Carl Levin paid a special visit to U.P. veterans on Saturday.
At the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter in Negaunee Township, Senator Levin saw, for the first time, the monument he helped bring to the U.P. The helicopter that stands tall next to the building took a couple years to get. After being on a waiting list, the chapter wrote to Senator Levin's office, seeking his help.
"The American people learned a big lesson, that is, you can argue about policy, you can argue about whether we ought to be in a war or not, but when it comes to supporting our troops and supporting our vets, they pulled together and learned that's who we owe everything to, so I wanted just to get here, couple years late, but we helped to get this helicopter there," said Senator Levin.
The helicopter was initially to be housed in Texas, but after the Senator's push, it made its way up from a museum in Chicago.
